BIO

Matias Santos is an Argentine dancer, born in the province of Entre Rios. In his childhood he began studying Argentine Folk Dance in his native place. Shortly after graduating as a National Folklore Professor, he began studying classical dance at the age of 18. He then obtained the Art and Culture Scholarship in the city of Buenos Aires and entered the Higher Institute of Art of the Teatro Colón, thus joining the ISA Youth Ballet, with which he made various tours as a principal dancer throughout the country and abroad, participating in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, held in Aberdeen, Scotland; the Barrio Antiguo Festival in Monterrey, Mexico; among others.

In 2005 he entered through an open competition, and before an international jury, to the Ballet Estable of the Teatro Colón, where he stood out as a soloist in various works such as Who Cares, Symphony in C, Allegro Brillante by G. Balanchine, La Bella Durmiente del Bosque, Don Quixote, The Combat, Swan Lake, Giselle, Raymonda, Pulsations, The Nutcracker by R. Nureyev, Sylvia by F. Ashton, Petrushka, Adagietto by O. Araiz, Por vos Muero by N. Duato. And as a principal dancer he stars in Before Nightfall by Nils Christe, Cinderella by Renato Zantella, Bruch by Clark Tippet, Rodín by Boris Eifman, Onegin by John Cranko, among others. Likewise, he participated in the BETC international tours of Muscat, Oman, and the Havana Festival, Cuba. He is invited to tour South America, Central America and the Caribbean as a figure of the Tango Pasión Company alongside International Dance Stars. In 2016 he was chosen and prepared by teachers Víctor and Agneta Valcu in the role of Onegin for the ballet of the same name by John Cranko. He is artistically and academically trained by Maestro Martin Miranda. In June 2013 he appeared at the XII International Ballet Competition of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow accompanying Luana Brunetti, receiving the award for Artistic Mastery. Next he participates, representing the Teatro Colón company in the International Ballet Gala in Asunción Paraguay. In 2019 he participated in the project El Abrazo Tango filmed in the Vatican gardens. That same year, he was invited to undertake an extensive tour of the People's Republic of China as principal dancer of the Roma City Ballet. In 2022 he is invited as a principal dancer in the performances of the operas La Traviata and Aida at the Arena di Verona, Italy. That same year he was summoned by Mora Godoy as her partner in various shows in her company. As a choreographer he has created the works Amanecer Tango, Balletango and Sumaj Pachamama, the latter together with La Charo and his music, premiered at the CETC of the Teatro Colón and subsequently at the Cosquín International Folk Festival. Likewise, in 2020 he puts together the choreographic staging of the digital version of La Traviata for the Teatro Colón. On the other hand, in 2019 he began his acting training that continues to this day. As a jury he has participated in the most popular carnivals in Argentina such as Gualeguaychú, Corrientes, Concordia, among others. Since 2023 he has been working as director and dancer of his work Balletango on various stages in the country, participating, among others, in the Tango Festival and World Cup of the City of Buenos Aires.
